Even if people nowadays have their own computers and other gadgets with internet access, people still go to an internet cafe as a place to relax, have fun and hang out with friends. Internet cafe games satisfy that basic need of people, to play, have fun and socialize. No matter what your age is, there is a game that is right for you.
Below are the most popular internet cafe games in the planet. Key factors in choosing these genres of games over the rest are those with game play that are fast, easy to learn and ADDICTING! Remember, people are paying internet cafe game time, they don’t want to wait the game to load and learn a lot of controls and mumbo jumbo before playing!
So here are the top three popular genres of internet cafe games for both young and old!
First person shooter games (FPS)
FPS games simulate gunfight combat on the point of view of the computer player. These games are especially popular on internet cafe as almost all FPS games facilitate multiple player mode. Meaning you and your friends can shoot each other in a 3D virtual world! Then there is also MMO FPS or Massive Multiplayer Online FPS, in which you can fight against a large number of human players around the world!
As like any other multiplayer internet cafe games, as a cyber cafe owner you should have more than ten computers terminals to facilitate groups of virtual gunfighters. Ideally these groups of players want an internet cafe with back to back computer terminals or any setup that prevents opposing team from peeking each other’s computer screen. As the game play is very fast-paced, in order to win, players need to hone their reflexes and use a good mouse. Some hardcore FPS gamers might bring their own mouse and keyboards especially in competitions. Some of my players adjust and reduce the computer screen display to easily see the whole environment and give more focus on the target.
The most popular FPS of all time for an internet cafe in my opinion is Counter Strike (or CS as hardcore gamers calls it) because of its moddability or the ability to customize the game keeps players from coming back for almost endless hours of playtime.
Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs)
Unlike FPS or MMO FPS wherein you rely mostly on your skills in shooting in order to win, MMORPG rely mostly on developing the player’s virtual character in a virtual world, in real-time and with thousands of players worldwide. Thus, MMORPG is not a quick round game, but a virtual life that only ends when you decide to stop playing the specific game. This genre is popular in internet cafes as friends tends to show-off their virtual character or team up side by side (virtually and physically in two or more computer terminals).
As an internet cafe owner, you can have additional income from game cards bought to you by your players. You can purchase these through the specific game company. Some games provides the options to purchase and load up credits that can be used by the player to further develop his virtual character by purchasing virtual equipments, potions, weapons etc.
Real Time Strategy Games (RTS)
As the name of the genre imply, these type of games requires strategic planning in order to win. It involves simultaneous control of units at the players command. Just like chess, the player controls his units to overpower the enemy. But unlike chess (which is a turn base game), RTS games is continuous. Both players controls and give commands to their units continuously. Thus, quick decisions, quick commands and good strategy is the name of the game. Dune II is probably the first RTS game and the first internet cafe game that I played. After which popular RTS games are Command and Conquer, Red Alert, Warcraft and Starcraft. Again, these type of games support multiplayer mode and thus very popular to gaming internet cafes.
A sub genre of RTS is ARTS or Action Real-Time Strategy games. Also sometimes called Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). Unlike ordinary RTS games, in ARTS games the player controls only one virtual character (often called as the player’s “hero”) instead of controlling multiple units and constructing different units. Just like superheroes that we know, ARTS heroes have different special abilities thus they lead their armies by properly utilizing these abilities to dictate the tides of battle to your enemy.
By far, the most popular ARTS is Defense of the Ancients (DotA) a mode for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne.
